Ayurvedic Deep Conditioner

It may sound dramatic, but deep conditioners can have amazing benefits for your curly hair.

Deep conditioning treatments tend to be more substantive and intense than your typical conditioner.

Curly-haired individuals know how important it is to maintain healthy locks. With all of the manipulation, daily wear and tear, exposure to the elements during the week , curly hair often needs an occasional deep conditioning treatment t o help hydrate, strengthen, and support your hair’s overall health.

Our new Ayurvedic deep conditioner is a weightless deep conditioner that will not weigh your hair down because of the light oils it contains.

The deep conditioner is based on the traditional Indian Ayurvedic concept for hair care.

The product is a concentrated formulation containing several cationic detanglers, plant-sourced emollients, and extracts. It aims to smooth hair fibers, reduce fiber to fiber friction, and impart shine.

Emollients provide multiple functions; they lubricate hair fibers as well as stimulate scalp skin cells to cellular activity. This product is a multi-tasker that can work efficiently as an instant conditioner, as well as deep treatment to help improve hair strength.

Now let's dive deeper and analyze the product formulation and science of this blend.

Chemistry of Formulation

Indian herbs

The formulation contains Amla, shikakai, and saffron. They are part of the Indian ayurvedic regimen for hair care.

Amla (Indian gooseberry) is a medicinal tree planted in India, Pakistan, and other southeast Asian countries. The tree bears edible sweet fruits that are rich in vitamin C.

For centuries, its extract and oil have been used for hair cleansing and conditioning.

The phytonutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals present in amla help to increase the scalp circulation and stimulate healthy growth.

Additionally, gooseberry is high in vitamin E, a nutrient with strong anecdotal evidence to help protect the skin and help with hair growth.

Shikakai is known for its hair-softening properties. It contains high levels of saponins present in its extracts, which act as a cleansing agent for hair, removing excess sebum and particles.

Rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins A, C, K, and D, Shikakai may help keep hair healthy. Its vitamin C content can help promote hair growth by giving your scalp a collagen boost.

Shikakai helps add shine to your hair while also making it more manageable.

Shikakai can help curb hair loss by restoring scalp health. It also helps with issues like an aggravated scalp, follicle clogging, dandruff, and itching.

Saffron is also beneficial for hair. It can repair damaged hair and promote hair growth.

Saffron is rich in vitamins like vitamin A, folic acid, niacin, and vitamin-C. Its antioxidants properties can also help prevent hair loss.

Cationic detanglers

Our Ayurvedic Deep Conditioner contains three cationic surfactants of different molecular size and weight.

  • Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine is an amine neutralized with lactic acid, which has a strong affinity for amino acid sites at the hair shaft. It aligns cuticles, which gives the hair more slip.
  • Behentrimonium Methosulfate is the second cationic conditioner in the product. The long behenyl chain attaches itself to negative sites of the hair fiber, and this adhesion provides lubricity to the hairs, which helps when detangling.
  • Cetrimonium chloride is the third cationic. The three cationics, in combination with Cetearyl alcohol, form an emulsion delivery system that delivers other actives to the hairs. Cationic surfactants decrease oil droplet size, which enables them to penetrate and adhere to hair fiber more strongly and effectively.

Emollients (Oils)

Our new Ayurvedic Deep Conditioner also contains several essential oils added to help lubricate hair fibers.

Baobab and sunflower seed oils are a major portion of the formulation. Baobab is a tropical African tree, and its seeds bear a unique oil with amazing conditioning properties.

The chemical composition of Baobab oil mainly comprises of monosaturated fatty acids, which is not tacky or greasy to the touch.

Baobab oils also contain antioxidants, cholesterol, squalene, and vitamin E.

Sunflower and sesame oils are traditional oil emollients that also provide a non-greasy and oily feel to hairs.

Caprylic/capric triglyceride is an ester commonly added in hair care formulations. It also works as an oil self-emulsifier, which stabilizes other emollients in the product.

Hydrolyzed Jojoba Ester

Jojoba oil has been the focus of hair care science for years. Researchers have put up various modified versions of jojoba oil to enhance its cosmetic properties.

Hydrolysis of oil gives free fatty acids known as “Hydrolyzed Jojoba Ester.” There is strong anecdotal evidence that this ingredient has been shown to provide superior moisturizing, 're-fattening' and lubricating properties.
